Living in Sequoyah Hills

Sequoyah Hills sits on a bend of the Tennessee River just off Kingston Pike, between downtown Knoxville and West Knoxville. The river wraps the neighborhood on three sides, and Kingston Pike forms its northern edge. Cherokee Boulevard, with its wide grassy median, loops around the peninsula and is one of the most recognizable drives in the city.

Homes and history

Most of the neighborhood was developed from the mid-1920s on, after Knoxville annexed the area in 1917. Streets curve with the land, and homes range from 1920s and 1930s Tudor Revival, Neoclassical and Colonial Revival designs to mid-century modern houses. The Talahi section, begun in 1926, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its fountains, stone walls and entry pylons. Higher lots have river and downtown views.
